About

gretchen1

I’m Gretchen, and I live for two things, food and fashion. A day without truly experiencing either is like a day wasted for me. In our house, Food Network is always on, and I do mean always.

My desire to cook came about 5 years ago but my desire to watch people cook came about long before that. My Mom says I liked to watch cooking shows even as a young child. Something about watching someone take these separate ingredients and combining them together to create a single dish was so fascinating to me. My Mom is a great cook and had dinner on the table every night. I never needed to cook and the idea of actually wanting to never hit me. I was perfectly content to sit on the couch and watch Nigella bang out a chocolate cake or to listen to Emeril explain how to make a gastrique. It wasn’t until I moved to Virginia with my husband that my passion to create really took over.

I started experimenting with simple things like soups and stews figuring, you can’t really get those wrong. As time went on, I became more and more confident in my culinary abilities and it’s become something I’m very proud of. My knowledge of all things fashion probably started about 10 years ago and has grown steadily along with my income. I’m constantly scouring the internet to see what’s coming next. I live to shop and I have somewhat of an obsession with jeans and currently own about 50 pair.

I live in northern Virginia with my amazingly supportive husband James and our two crazy dogs, Nugget and Sylar. You can see all the articles I’ve written for the site here.

Favorite food to cook:

It’s very simple but I love cooking pancakes for my husband on Saturday mornings. He never asks me to whip him up a batch but when I ask if he’d like for me to make some, his eyes light up and he reminds me of a little boy. We call them p-cakes. Not sure where or how this came about but we do tend to abbreviate things…

Favorite item of clothing:

This is a tough one. I just have too many pieces that I consider favorites. Right now I’m loving this yellow circle scarf I got at Target for a mere $12! It’s so lightweight and very versatile. I’m really excited about a new pair of cobalt blue suede Louboutin-esque Guess heels I just got. My favorite pair of jeans right now would have to be my Earnest Sewn Harlan Cigars.

Guilty pleasure:

Shopping, trash rags, duck breast served medium rare with crispy skin, mojitos and dirty Ketel One martinis, extra dirty. Gossip Girl, 90210, (yes, I said it) ANTM, Top Chef and Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations.

Soundtrack to your life:

Abba’s Gold album.
